NEET 2017: Coaching gurus in Kota analyse the exam question paper

Coaching gurus in Rajasthan's Kota, who analysed the question paper of National Eligibility-Cum-Entrance Test (NEET) 2017 examination that was held on Sunday, have said it was more or less an average paper and that the biology and physics parts were tougher this year.

Over 11 lakh candidates took the test for 95,000 medical and dental seats at 1921 examination centres in 103 cities across India. The result is likely to be declared on June 8.

There were 180 questions to be answered, with a total of 720 marks. This included 45 questions from physics and chemistry and 90 questions from biology. Each question was of the objective type with four choices.

Here's what teachers at leading coaching institutes in Kota have to say:

Resonance Coaching Institute

Managing director of Resonance Eduventures Private Limited, RK Verma, said that the paper was on the similar pattern as that of NEET 2016.

The questions and their level were different in the papers in regional languages than those in English and Hindi, said Verma. The physics part seemed tougher than chemistry while biology part was tougher than physics, he said.

"Out of the total 720 marks paper, questions worth 236 marks were easier, questions worth 316 marks were little tough and questions worth 168 marks were the toughest," Verma said.

As per Verma, the cut off of NEET 2017 could be lower than last year.

While the cutoff for general category students could be 439, 433 for other backward castes, 296 for Scheduled Castes and 288 for Scheduled Tribes.

Further analysis can be seen on the institute's website www.resonance.ac.in.

Allen Career Institute

Brajesh Maheshwari, director of Allen Career Institute, said while several questions of chemistry were tough, the physics paper was conceptual so those with a better clarity must have been able to solve the questions.

He said that there were 2-3 questions whose answers are confusing.

The biology part of the question paper was tougher than the previous year and there were 62 questions from botany and 28 from zoology. "Around 76 questions were from NCERT syllabus while 14 were from a non-NCERT syllabus," he said.

Career Point Institute

Career Point's director Shailendra Maheshwari made an overall analysis.

Physics

• Overall it was average but difficult as compared to previous years' papers

• Distribution of Class 11 and Class 12 syllabus is almost equal

• In one question from RLC circuit, none of the options was correct and should be a bonus and one question from photoelectric effect has 2 same options.

Chemistry

• The overall level of chemistry part was average

• Organic part was mechanism based

• Inorganic part was easy and 2 questions were conceptual

• 2 questions in physical chemistry were conceptual while others were formula based.

Biology

• Overall the paper was standard with very little ambiguity or controversy

• As compared to last year, the level was slightly higher than NEET 1 and much higher than NEET 2

• Few (5 to 6) questions were out of NCERT/prescribed syllabus but were covered by CP study material.
